Plein air · Seascapes and landscapes · Watercolour and acrylic
Nick Fegan lives and works in south County Dublin, painting outdoors, on site. His subjects are mostly the sea and the coast, with landscapes alongside — the weather and the light of a particular morning caught while it lasts.
Watercolour is a demanding medium — spontaneous and fast-drying, it asks for fast action and confidence. Acrylic is my latest exciting medium. It is ideal for plein air painting and has similar qualities to watercolour.
He has exhibited in galleries and public venues over many years, and was commissioned to illustrate a series of books for RTÉ historian Hugh Oram of the Radio 1 programme Seascapes — among them The Little Book of Stillorgan, The Little Book of Mount Merrion and Booterstown. His work in acrylic has been recognised by the U.S. publication PleinAir Magazine and by Artists Network. He shows with newirishart.com and the Irish Watercolour Society.
